VoIP Awareness Increasing

As VoIP becomes more popular around the world, awareness of the technology has increased substantially. According to Pew Internet & American Life Project, 25 percent of all Internet users are aware of VoIP services.

Of all the Internet users who are aware of VoIP service, only 3 percent have actually considered using a VoIP phone in their home. Currently, 11 percent of all Internet users have placed a call over the Internet.

Most Internet users who have heard of VoIP use high-speed connections (Cable, DSL, etc.). Not surprisingly, younger people have heard more, and know more, about VoIP than their older counterparts.

As with many new technologies, those who are willing to use the technology before it is mainstream are known as early adopters. These early adopters, in general, are usually more willing to deal with a few shortcomings that new technologies may have. Common problems with VoIP phone services are echos, static, and delays.
