VoIP Caller ID

With VoIP caller ID, it is possible to see who is calling before answering the phone.

This feature only works for those who have a phone that is capable of showing caller ID. Those with old corded or cordless telephones will not be able to take advantage of this feature.

While the major POTS companies provide name-based VoIP caller ID, most VoIP service providers only offer number-based call ID. This is likely to change as VoIP is more widely accepted.

Caller ID with Call Waiting

VoIP caller ID is a feature that works with call waiting. As with a normal phone call, caller ID is displayed when a call is routed through call waiting. Having this feature makes it very easy to filter calls. If a call comes in without a caller ID, you can simply not answer it. Additionally, you can set up a profile that filters calls which have caller ID blocked.

Caller ID at no Cost

With most conventional telephone plans, adding caller ID to a plan costs more. However, VoIP caller ID is usually an included VoIP advanced feature with most VoIP providers.

As more and more VoIP providers offer web-based voice mail, caller ID makes it easy to see who a message is from in your VoIP interface. Additionally, if you have your voice mails emailed to you, the caller ID will show up in the subject field of the email. This makes it easy to quickly find a certain voice mail.
